Kaunispää summit walk
The quickest way to bag a fell view: a short, well-trodden climb (or drive/lift) to the 438-metre top of Kaunispää right above the village, with open 360-degree fell panoramas and a summit café. It's the ideal warm-up hike or evening stroll, and a fine spot to watch the midnight sun in summer.

Koppelolenkki, Tankavaara
An easy marked loop in Urho Kekkonen National Park starting from the Tankavaara area, gentle enough for families and a lovely place to take in the autumn colours. It doubles as a snowshoe trail in winter, so it works well across seasons for an undemanding nature walk.

Rumakuru gorge loop
The signature Saariselkä day hike: a roughly 14 km fell loop from the Saariselkä gate past Iisakkipää to Rumakuru, a steep-walled gorge carved by Ice Age meltwater, returning via Vävypää. There's a day-use hut at Rumakuru and another at Piispanoja, and the route delivers proper open-fell scenery without needing an overnight.

Kiirunapolku to Kiilopää summit
The most popular and most demanding marked trail in the area, the Kiirunapolku climbs to the top of Kiilopää and loops north before returning to the Kiilopää gate. The reward is a vast, exposed fell panorama from one of the highest points around, and a real sense of the open tundra. It's regularly rated the top trail in Saariselkä.

Saariselkä fell day routes into UKK
Beyond the named classics, the Saariselkä gate opens onto a web of marked fell routes deeper into Urho Kekkonen National Park, with day-use and wilderness huts spacing out longer outings. For confident hikers it's a rare chance to plan your own fell day, linking tops and valleys as far as your legs allow before turning back.
