Shopping in Ylläs centres on two K-Market supermarkets (Jounin Kauppa in Äkäslompolo, Eelin Kauppa in Ylläsjärvi), ski and bike rental shops at both resort bases, and the Kellokas visitor centre for maps and Lappish souvenirs. There is no S-market in either village.

Nobody comes to Ylläs to shop, but you will want to know where things are, and the answer is mostly one of the two K-Markets. Beyond groceries, the useful stops are gear rental at both ski bases, the national-park shop at Kellokas for maps and proper Lappish souvenirs, and the big village store that doubles as a one-stop hub.

Two practical notes. There is no S-market in either village, and the Äkäslompolo side (Jounin Kauppa) is the better stocked of the two. It is worth a first-day run to fill the cottage fridge.

1

K-Market Jounin Kauppa

Famous well beyond Ylläs, this is one of Lapland's largest village shops and a genuine local institution. Alongside a full grocery range it carries clothing, gifts, a Lapland-products department and small-producer goods, and the same complex holds an Alko, a pharmacy, an ATM, fuel and EV charging. In practice it is a one-stop hub where you can shop, refuel and stock the cottage in a single trip. Make it your first-day stop, since the Äkäslompolo side is the better-stocked of the two villages.

The practical place to stock a self-catering cottage on arrival, come early in your stay, as the Äkäslompolo side has the better-stocked services of the two villages.

2

K-Market Eelin Kauppa

The main supermarket on the southern Ylläsjärvi side, open every day and well stocked for its size. If you are staying south, it saves the fifteen-kilometre drive around the fell to Jounin Kauppa. There is also a smaller grocery point at the ski-resort base for anything you forget. Handy, friendly and exactly what a self-catering stay needs.

Open every day, handy for the Ylläsjärvi and ski-resort crowd. There's also a smaller grocery point at the resort base.

3

HILL Ski Rent (ski & bike rental)

The main full-service rental at the Ylläsjärvi gondola, covering alpine and cross-country skis, snowboards, fatbikes, pulks and avalanche kit, with premium-brand retail alongside. Being right at the lift means you can rent, buy a pass and book ski school in one stop, and swap gear quickly if conditions change. It is the obvious choice on the south side. Book ahead in the Christmas-to-Easter peak.

Being at the gondola means quick swaps if conditions change. Book rentals ahead in winter high season (Christmas-Easter).

4

Y1 Ski Rental (Äkäslompolo)

The convenient rental and service option on the Äkäslompolo side, in the Y1 building at the base of the slopes. It covers alpine, snowboard, telemark and freeride gear for all levels, plus snowshoes and pulks, and has a workshop for maintenance. Use the service bench for a mid-trip wax or edge tune to keep things running fast. Easiest if you are staying on the north side.

5

Yllästunturi Visitor Centre Kellokas

The gateway to Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, sitting between the two villages, with a nature shop selling trail maps and genuinely local products. It is also a fine free stop in its own right, with a nature exhibition, the Savotta museum, a cafe and a small cinema. Pick up your hiking maps here before you head out, and time it with a coffee or a film. For dedicated Lappish handicrafts, Ylläspuoti near Lake Ylläsjärvi is worth a look too.
