Best Mountain Biking in Ruka (2026)

Updated 2026 · Curated by local scouts

Ruka Bike Park was named Finland's Bike Park of the Year in 2023, with lift-served downhill and flow trails for every level. Beyond the park, the area has around 180 km of marked mountain-bike trails and close to 900 km of gravel routes through the fells.

When the snow melts, Ruka's slopes become one of the best biking hubs in the North. From beginner flow to steep downhill and long gravel days, here's how to ride Ruka.

1

Ruka Bike Park

Ruka Bike Park is the most diverse lift-served biking centre in the North and was crowned Finland's Bike Park of the Year in 2023. Four lifts, including the Village-2-Valley gondola, haul you and your bike to the top, where trails fan out for every level from smooth beginner flow to technical natural lines. It's the heart of summer Ruka, walkable from the village, and the easiest place in Finland to rack up gravity laps.

Buy a lift pass and rent a full-suspension bike in the village; the gondola takes bikes so you can ride straight from town.

2

Beginner flow trails

Ruka Bike Park's easy, machine-built flow trails are the perfect place to learn lift-served riding: smooth, bermed and rollable, with no surprises, served by the gentler lifts and the Family Park magic carpet. They're genuinely fun for first-timers and families while still flowing fast enough to keep stronger riders grinning. The best introduction to mountain biking the resort has.

3

Downhill & natural technical trails

For experienced riders, Ruka's steeper constructed flow lines and natural technical trails are the draw, rooty, rocky descents off the top of the fell that reward bike handling and pay out in fast, committing runs. This is where the Bike Park of the Year reputation is earned, with enough variety to spend days chasing different lines off the same lifts. Bring pads and a capable bike.

Ride the natural trails in the dry; the roots get slick fast after rain.

4

Kuusamo gravel route network

Away from the lifts, Ruka-Kuusamo has close to 900 km of gravel cycling routes threading through the fells, forests and lake country, with around 180 km of marked mountain-bike trails on top. It's some of the best gravel riding in Finland, quiet forest roads and big national-park landscapes, ideal for long, self-guided days out from the village. A different, calmer side of biking here.
